Most women experience changes in the appearance of their breasts as they age. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, time and gravity can cause round, youthful breasts to sag, droop, and lose their shape. A breast lift with or without implants in Chicago from Dr. Sammy Sinno or Dr. Thomas Mustoe, who has performed over 1,000 breast lifts, can restore the youthful shape and feel of the breasts, and may improve confidence and self-image as well.
Dr. Mustoe and Dr. Sinno, board-certified plastic surgeons, are recognized as cosmetic breast surgery specialists by patients and fellow doctors alike. Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is performed to lift, firm and reshape breasts that sag or droop due to age, motherhood, heredity, or weight changes. During the procedure, your surgeon:
Removes excess, sagging skin
Repositions underlying tissue for improved shape
Lifts the entire breast and nipple to a higher, more youthful placement on the chest
May also enhance the size of the breasts with implants
In some cases, breast lift surgery can also correct breast asymmetry, reduce enlarged nipples, or remove stretch marks from the breasts. The procedure is a good option for healthy women at a stable weight who are happy with the size of their breasts, but would like to improve shape and position. It can also be combined with other body contouring procedures after massive weight loss, such as an arm lift or thigh lift.
Many patients benefit from combining a breast lift with breast augmentation, not only to increase size, but also for optimization of shape without a change in size. As the breasts drop and respond to changes in weight or after pregnancy, the upper portion of the breasts can lose volume, which cannot always be corrected by the breast lift procedure alone. It is then appropriate to place a small implant to optimize shape without necessarily changing the breast size significantly. Dr. Mustoe or Dr. Sinno can also add fullness to the upper breast using fat transfer, if the patient does not want implants.
For patients who desire smaller, lifted breasts, breast reduction may be the right choice.

Most of his breast lift patients report that over-the-counter pain medication is enough to manage their postsurgical discomfort. They are generally able to return to light activities and work within just a few days. With the aid of a support bra, you will continue to heal over the next 4 to 6 weeks, during which time your surgeon will continue to monitor your recovery closely. Swelling will continue to subside during this time, and incisions will gradually start to fade. Most breast lift patients report that they feel better about their breast appearance almost immediately, and that they can show off their results within just a few weeks of surgery.
